Whether you’re looking to turn your bike into a go-go gadget mountain climbing machine, travel at speeds greater than a speeding bullet or an everyday cycling powerhouse, excelcycle has anything and everything you need for a wheel upgrade. From light weight carbon fiber race wheels to road bike wheelsets for the recreational rider, we boast race-proven sets from top brands such as Mavic, Campagnolo and Fulcrum, all which are at the forefront of the game.
Campagnolo
Campagnolo Zonda Clincher Wheelset, $785
The Campagnolo Zonda Clincher Wheelset offers Campagnolo’s high-end style at a lower price. Gone from the more expensive Campagnolo wheels are things like ceramic bearings and aluminum spokes, while what remains is a nearly bombproof wheel that still comes in under 1600 grams. Butted and bladed stainless steel spokes tie a machined aluminum rim and an aluminum hub together, providing both stiffness and durability.
Inside the hub are Campy’s super smooth grade 10 stainless steel bearings, helping you and your Zondas roll forever. With new-school Campagnolo looks and old-school Campagnolo smoothness and reliability, the Campagnolo Zonda Clincher Wheelset is a proven winner.
Campagnolo Bullet Ultra Dark Carbon Clincher Wheelset, $1,950
Adding numerous groundbreaking technologies to the standard model, such as three bearing choices, three rim depths (50mm, 80mm and 105mm), two alloy tire bed profiles (the standard clincher and the 2-Way Fit tubeless)—and even the option for standard or the use of the “Dark” graphics—the Campagnolo Bullet Ultra Dark Carbon Clincher Wheelset truly becomes your own.
Featuring a 50mm carbon/aluminum rim, the Campagnolo Bullet Ultra Dark Carbon Clincher Wheelset utilizes aerodynamic spokes that are arranged in a radial patten on the front wheel and Campagnolo’s groundbreaking G3 pattern on the rear. Their hubs feature an anti-rotation system that allows your wheelset to maintain a constant aerodynamic penetration coefficient, always ensuring you’re properly balanced.
The Campagnolo Bullet Ultra Dark Carbon Clincher Wheelset, like every model of the Ultra series, also comes with Campagnolo’s cup-and-cone hub design that features the three bearing choices of standard steel, USB and CULT, where the CULT bearings utilize oil lubrication versus grease for less resistance. All of the Ultra models are also built with oversized alloy nipples as opposed to the standard model’s brass, ensuring they will stand the test of time.
Campagnolo Bora Ultra Two Carbon Tubular Wheelset, $4,155
The Campagnolo Bora Ultra Two Carbon Tubular Wheelset is built for flat-out speed. A 50 millimeter, all-carbon rim reduces drag when you’re clipping along the flats, but its relatively light weight also makes it appropriate for hillier rides, too.
Laced up with carbon-shelled hubs using butted and bladed stainless steel spokes, the Bora Ultra Two wheelset cuts weight and drag not only from the rim, but everywhere else it can. Campagnolo uses its G3 lacing pattern on the rear, grouping two drive side spokes with every one non-drive spoke, to add stiffness where it’s needed and make the Bora Ultra Two accelerate on demand.
To help you conserve energy (or just go faster with the same effort!!!), the Campagnolo Bora Ultra Two Carbon Tubular Wheelset uses CULT ceramic bearings, known to be some of the smoothest on the market. Campagnolo even goes as far as to balance out the weight of the valve stem by adding a bit of extra carbon fiber directly opposite the valve, keeping the Bora Ultra Two stable at high speeds.
Fulcrum
Fulcrum Racing 5 Wheelset, $440
After a nuclear holocaust, cockroaches will build colonies between the spokes of Fulcrum Racing 5 Wheelset. That’s how durable they are. Butted and bladed stainless steel spokes laced to aluminum rims and new one-piece hub shells get the job done every time.
Fulcrum’s 2:1 rear lacing pattern uses 27 of those spokes to transfer power to the ground while still keeping weight in mind. The rims are 24mm deep, eyeletted aluminum for strength and durability. Keeping things rolling smoothly and predictably, even at speed, is Fulcrum’s Dynamic Balance system.
Dynamic Balance offsets the weight differences normally found in different areas of a wheel in order to get rid of the “hop” feeling associated with those weight differences. All told, the 2010 Fulcrum Racing 5 Wheelset rolls smoothly, stays round, and offers the classic Fulcrum stiff-yet-forgiving ride.
Fulcrum Racing 1 2-Way Fit Wheelset, $1330
The 2010 Fulcrum Racing 1 2-Way Fit Wheelset got some minor tweaks, tweaks that add up to a 50 gram weight savings without any sacrifice in performance. Like the Racing Zero, the Racing 1 2-Way Fit uses aluminum spokes and nipples, laced up radially in front and in Fulcrum’s Two-to-One pattern in the rear.
By using two drive side spokes for every one non-drive side spoke, Fulcrum is able to make a wheel that accelerates quickly, holds up well, and yet still sheds any unnecessary weight. The front rim is 24mm in height, and the rear is 28mm – heights that Fulcrum found best able to handle the different stresses faced by each wheel.
In their quest to shed weight without effecting ride quality, Fulcrum machines down the rims between each spoke on the Fulcrum Racing 1 2-Way Fit Wheelset, saving a few grams per rim. With the Fulcrum Racing 1 2-Way Fit Wheelset, you can run either a standard clincher tire and tube or a tubeless tire.
Fulcrum Racing Speed 2008 Wheelset,
SALE $2,299
The Fulcrum Racing Speed wheelset is extremely light, aerodynamic and stiff. The rim is full carbon fiber construction and measures 50mm in depth. These tubular wheels have a wonderful ride quality and are an excellent “make your buddies jealous” wheelset, and are also great for racing or triathlons.
The aerodynamic spokes are arranged in a 2:1 Two to One ratio. Fulcrum Racing Speed hubs are aluminum with fully adjustable and serviceable ball bearings.
This last wheelset is Shimano 10 speed compatible only, however the freehub body is interchangeable. Please check with us if you’d like a different freehub body to be installed on this Fulcrum Racing Speed wheelset.
Mavic
Mavic Aksium Black Wheelset, $269.99
The Askium Black Wheelset is not only 140g lighter than previous versions, it also utilizes QRM bearings, a FTS-L freewheel, H2 spoke holes and straight pull spokes that are stronger than J bent ones, making this wheelset ready to race.
Boasting such features such as a UB Control braking surface to increase friction and eliminate shuddering and unique aesthetics that will automatically one-up your bike’s overall curb appeal, when you invest in the Askium Black Wheelset you’ll become part of the race-proven pedigree that is Mavic.
With the Askium Black Wheelset you’ll get access to Mavic WTS reliability, safe and durable Aksion tires, high quality cartridge bearings, 60g weight savings where it matters—in the rims—and not to mention a super sexy jet black coat.
Mavic Ksyrium Equipe White Wheelset, $449.99
By sharing features with its predecessors, Mavic has not only created a performance level set that won’t break the bank, but have ideally united quality with functionality.
Parting with Mavic’s use of FORE drilled rims and thread-in spoke grommets, the Ksyrium Equipe Wheelset’s rims are more traditional single-eyeletted with the spoke holes penetrating the outer wall of the rim, requiring you to use rim strips, and while it uses the identical lightweight FTS-L steel freehub body as the Ksyrium Elite and SL wheels, the Ksyrium Equipe Wheelset uses sealed bearing hubs that lack the on-bike adjustability.
The Ksyrium Equipe Wheelset is also available in a jet black gloss, and both the front and real wheels have 20 spokes, where the front are radial and the rear use Mavic’s Isopulse lacing with a mixture of radial and crossed spokes for enhanced power transfer.
Mavic Cosmic Carbone SR Wheelset, $1,999.99
By taking proven technology from the Ultimate and adding the conveniency of a clincher wheel, the Cosmic Carbon SR Wheelset is the perfect blend of aerodynamics, stiffness, weight and ease-of-use.
Crafted with Mavic’s lust-worthy rim-to-rim carbon spokes that tie the rim and the hub together, the Cosmic Carbon SR Wheelset was specifically designed with spokes that are not only extremely light, but also aerodynamic and performance ready.
The Cosmic Carbon SR Wheelset features 52mm elliptical rims, low profile hub caps, the preferred braking of Mavic’s UB control machined braking surface and with the abundance and smart use of carbon, the weight is kept at a feathery 1600g—coming together in a package that will do more than hold its own on climbs and performance on race day.
