The 2011 Fulcrum Racing 3 Wheelset defies categorization. Is it a training wheel that’s light enough to race, or a race wheel that’s strong enough to train on?
Well, that’s up to you. It’s equally at home as a hotshot upgrade over most OEM wheels or a back-up wheel for your freaky light tubulars. Put it in the wheel pit, put it on the starting line, it doesn’t matter, it can take anything you throw at it. Welded rims and stainless steel spokes add strength, making the Fulcrum Racing 3 Wheelset an option for cyclocross as well.
With an aluminum hub shell and axle, the weight of the Racing Three stays respectable, but not at the cost of sacrificing durability. Fulcrum laces the front wheel radially and the back wheel in their 2:1 pattern, using 2 spokes on the drive side for every one non-drive spoke. By doing this, they add strength while saving weight, and at the same time add the characteristic stiff-yet-comfortable ride quality Fulcrum wheels are known for.
