Fulcrum Racing Speed XLR Wheelset
  • Description

If you’ve never ridden a deep-section carbon fiber rim, you’re missing out. Wheels like the 2010 Fulcrum Racing Speed XLR Wheelset seem to take all the effort out of riding above 20mph. Because the wind is able to slide smoothly over the rim as opposed to slamming right into it, there is significantly less drag with an aero wheel at high speeds.

The Fulcrum Racing Speed XLR Wheelset goes beyond the level of many other wheels by adding CULT ceramic bearings in the hubs to reduce the drag inside the wheels, not just outside the wheels. To finish off the low-resistance package, Fulcrum uses butted, bladed spokes. The front wheel uses 18 radially laced spokes, and the rear wheel uses 21, laced in Fulcrum’s 2:1 pattern.

The 2:1 lacing pattern transfers power and adds stiffness while keeping weight to a minimum by using two drive side spokes for each non-drive side spoke. The result of all the thought and attention to detail that went into the 2010 Fulcrum Racing Speed XLR Wheelset is a package that rips through a headwind, flies up a hill, and tears legs off in a sprint. Sorry clincher fans, the Fulcrum Racing Speed XLR wheelset is only available in a tubular version.
