At first glance, the Lapierre Audacio 400L women's looks like a pro level carbon frameset. The smooth tube junctions, the graceful internal cable routing and the complicated tubing shapes all scream carbon fiber. But the Audacio is aluminum. Lapierre has gone to great lengths to make the Audacio look and ride like the finest carbon frames available today.
Each 7005 alloy tube is intricately hydroformed to maximize the capability of aluminum. Lapierre uses a process called double pass welding to smooth each weld so that it appears to flow into the next tube. This makes for a strong yet remarkably light frameset that has a wonderfully smooth, quiet ride. It looks like carbon, rides almost as smoothly as carbon, but for a fraction of the price. The Audacio shares the same frame geometry as it’s carbon Sensium sibling, so you know it’s made for long distance comfort.
Lapierre equips the Audacio with a carbon fork that is very light and stiff, yet really resilient on bad roads. Typical of French road bikes, the Audacio is a stable yet very responsive ride that loves to go fast.
At the back end, the Audacio frameset has curved seat stays that soak up the bigger bumps and flattened chainstays to help you put power to the ground. The curved chainstays and the curved downtube give the Audacio a fast but graceful presence.
